FAULT LINES / MAPS: New Work by Karen Wright Sexton

The work in this show ”Faultlines/Maps” is a series of paintings and prints evocative of landscape in their imagery. A metaphor for vectors where earth meets ocean, desert connects to mountains or the tension between planetary plates, the paintings are simultaneously, a place, a journey and a mental concept. They are each a recording of a fleeting moment and a visual description of places seen and unseen, moving with and capturing the flow of life. There is a resonance of color and spontaneity that evokes Zen brush painting in the work and an acknowledgement of the ephemeral and the permanent, life and death.

There is something I’ve been meaning to tell you: “It is important for painters who love painting not to paint everyday. The cultivation of a cosmic sense of being precedes in importance any expression of it.” Sam Scott As an artist living my art as a process of discovery I am free walking the delicate bridge between the known toward the unknown. My artist journey is about the choices I make in the process of painting. In this constant choosing I am aware of being always in the center of the circle, so large that the center is everywhere. In this space of infinite possibilities as I am making a painting, the choices are richly varied. There is never just a simple fork, but many possible vectors that might be realized; the painting/ object is a result of this creative activity. All these choices I make on my path to discovering the presence of “Ultimate Beauty” that presence which signifies that reality has at last, finally become Real. Something of the unknown is now known. My authentic self has spoken. in a new and surprising way. "Root Map" Mixed Media Graphite & Oil Stick 32"x32" "Fulcrum" Oil on Canvas 48"x48"
